Pine Light Counseling
Be seen, move your story forward
Therapy and support for the whole you
- Welcome to Pine Light Counseling! - - Counseling Specializing in Support for Grief, Trauma, Illness -
We all hold the capacity to grow and move toward a life of health and happiness. Social, cultural, and family systems influence our perspective, and how we connect to ourselves and with those around us. Sometimes our bodies betray us. Sometimes we need to heal from -- or at least learn to carry -- past traumas or losses, whether from the death of someone close to us, a future we
envisioned, a critical illness diagnosis, or our changing world. In other words, context matters. Whether recent circumstances are challenging, or aspects of the past need to be reconciled and faced, I am here to help you move closer to your goals through a trauma-informed and mindful, holistic body-centered lens. I provide therapy for a wide range of adult individuals, and specialize in working through issues associated with grief, trauma, and illness, and the accompanying stressors and impacts. I am trauma certified and EMDR trained.
Scheduling updates!
Due to overwhelming preference by my clients and accessibility for all considerations, appointments will remain telehealth throughout all of Oregon and Washington. If you are located anywhere within these two states, we may work together. All you need is a computer, tablet, or cell phone and an internet connection. Please email for availability of appointments or waitlist status.
Other Happenings!
- I was thrilled to serve for a year as Education Chair of the Northwest Association for Death Education & Bereavement Support.
- I was incredibly honored to attend the Dougy Center's Summer Institute for grief and loss therapists! I facilitated or co-facilitated adult grief processing groups there for several years and it's a special place, near and dear to my heart.
- It was an honor to be asked to write two chapters for the soon to be published textbook on trauma-informed mental healthcare produced through the Trauma Research Institute. The chapters are (working titles): Physiology of Trauma: Looking beyond the symptoms at the way the body holds and heals from trauma; and the other is Refugees and Immigrants in America: A look at the often compounded, fractured, and layered nature of trauma unique to this experience.
- I enjoyed facilitating a loss processing group at the 33rd annual Healing After Suicide Loss Conference through the American Association of Suicidology.
About Kir Rian
These beautiful, unpredictable, messy moments of life shape us, and I've learned that defining who we are through these moments helps us build the life we want ongoing. It's hard work. I help people navigate and sift through it all, and I believe in a mindfulness-based, collaborative approach. I am fully licensed as an LPC in Oregon and LMHC in Washington. I am also certified as a trauma therapist and EMDR trained. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, as well as a Certification in Trauma Response Services, and a Masters in Fine Arts. I bring over 20 years of experience working in the grief and trauma realms in a variety of ways, as a therapist in community mental health, as a grief group facilitator at Dougy Center, and have led processing groups and classes internationally, and with a wide variety of nonprofits and universities. I am an advocate for equality and social justice, and an ally for marginalized groups. I utilize an integrated approach based in person-centered mindfulness, somatic, and cognitive behavioral orientations. Our sessions are process-based.
As a fully licensed Counselor in Oregon and Washington, I abide by the Code of Ethics for both states. I welcome and work with people of all races, gender identities, ages, sexual orientations, and physical abilities, and I use she/her pronouns.
